DIAMOND - Gem of Strength

Diamond ~ April’s birthstone

Derived from the Greek word “ADAMAS’ which means indestructible, the diamond is the most desirable of all of the precious stones. The Romans believed cupid’s arrow were tipped with diamonds and therefore it is rooted in our consciousness as the symbol of eternal love.

They were first discovered in India in 500BC; then in the 1700s Brazil became a major source of diamonds, followed by South Africa in the late 1800s.

Known as the hardest substance to mankind, Diamonds rank 10 on the Mohs scale of hardness.  The only thing that can scratch the surface of a diamond is a diamond itself! When shopping for diamonds, it’s about the 4Cs – Cut, Clarity, Colour & Carat.

From bright red hues to deep green sparklers, diamonds are available in far more shades than the common clear variety. These coveted gems are sought after for their exceptional colors and rarity in nature, with Red diamonds being the rarest of all. Learn more >>
